AEW World Championship Match History (2019-2023):

Since 2019, the AEW World Championship has been the top prize in All Elite Wrestling. There has bee 5 wrestlers to hold the title since it's inception, over 6 reigns. Jon Moxley has held the title the most times with his 3 wins of the belt. CM Punk is behind him with his 2 reigns. The other wrestlers to have held the title: Kenny Omega, "Hangman" Adam Page, Chris Jericho and MJF have each held the title 1 time. Here is the complete match history for every title defense and win of the title:

First Champion: Chris Jericho (August 2019-March 2020):

  • AEW ALL OUT 2019: Chris Jericho def. "Hangman" Adam Page to become the inaugural champion. (Page had won a Battle Royale earlier in the night to become the person to face Jericho, who had defeated Kenny Omega at AEW's first pay-per-view - Double or Nothing 2019)

  • AEW Full Gear 2019: Chris Jericho (c) def. Cody Rhodes (Rhodes was barred from ever competing for the title again after losing the match with Jericho)

  • AEW Dynamite 11/27/19: Chris Jericho (c) def. Scorpio Sky to retain the title

  • AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022: Interim AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley def. Hiroshi Tanahashi to become interim AEW World Champion. Lineal champion CM Punk was originally scheduled to defend the title at the event against Tanahashi, but was pulled from the event due to an injury that required surgery. Moxley defeated Tanahashi in a tournament final to become interim champion.
