History:
On the July 27th, 2022, special episode of AEW Dynamite titled Fight for the Fallen, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced a tournament for the inaugural AEW World Trios Championship, which would culminate at the AEW ALL OUT 2022 pay-per-view on September 4th, 2022. Unlike the AEW World Tag Team Championship, which is a standard tag team title contested by teams of two wrestlers, the Trios Championship is contested by teams of three wrestlers, referred to as trios. At AEW ALL OUT 2022, The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson)) defeated "Hangman" Adam Page and The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds and John Silver) in the tournament final to become the inaugural champions.
Inaugural Champions And Suspension (August 2022):
Following berating comments made by AEW World Champion CM Punk at the AEW ALL OUT post-event media scrum on September 5th, a legitimate physical altercation occurred between Punk and The Elite. As a result, AEW president Tony Khan suspended all involved. On the September 7th episode of AEW Dynamite, Khan announced that both the World Championship and World Trios Championship were vacated. Khan then announced that the episode's scheduled 6-Man Tag Team Match between Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy) would be for the vacant World Trios Championship, which was won by Death Triangle.
New Design Introduced (August 2023):
In August 2023 following their win of the titles at the AEW ALL IN: London pay-per-view event at Wembley Stadium in London, England, The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) and "Daddy Ass" Billy Gunn introduced their own special versions of the three title belts, all with pink straps. The overall design of the title belts didnt change from what the black strapped versions of the belts were the only difference being the color of the straps the plates are on.
Unified AEW World Trios Championship (2024):
Beginning in January 2024, The Acclaimed joined up with Bullet Club Gold to form a supergroup known as the "Bang Bang Scissor Gang", however, at AEW Dynamite: Big Bu$iness, Bullet Club Gold turned on The Acclaimed, revealing their true intentions was to get closer to them to get their titles as The Acclaimed were AEW World Trios Champions and BCG were ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions (ROH's version of the Trios title). This led to AEW Dynasty 2024, where Bullet Club Gold (ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions) defeated The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) and Billy Gunn (AEW World Trios Champions) to become the Unified World Trios Champions. Bullet Club Gold (The Gunns (Austin Gunn and Colten Gunn) and Jay White) held the gold for 83 days. They would drop the titles after White got injured and had to be taken off television. This created the scenario where Juice Robinson was picked, as a member of Bullet Club Gold (or as they've been called now, "Bang Bang Gang"), they could invoke the "Freebird Rule" where a wrestler from a team of wrestlers is used in place of an injured fellow teammate, or just to really get some good heat on themselves as a heel group. This led to the acting AEW Executive Vice President Christopher Daniels, in his authority figure role, laying down the law that the titles had to be stripped and no one could take the place and that the titles would be decided ohe next week's episode of.Collision. The match would be The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Killswitch and Nick Wayne) versus Bang Bang Gang (The Gunns (Austin Gunn and Colten Gunn) and Juice Robinson. The match ended up seeing The Patriarchy end the Bang Bang's Reign.
The ROH World 6-Man Tag Team Championship No Longer Unified:
The unification of the AEW World Trios Championship and ROH World 6-Man Tag Team Championship ended up only being used for that specific storyline with the Bang Bang Gang getting all the Gold,even carrying the custom Pink Versions that were made by AEW for The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) for their reign, whom they won them from on April 21st, 2024 at AEW Dynasty 2024.
