* The newly crowned AEW World Champion CM Punk was originally scheduled to face Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door 2022 but ended up injured and needing surgery. The title was held up and an interim championship tournament was announced. A battle royale opened the June 8th episode of AEW Dynamite, with the winner advancing to face Jon Moxley, who was the number one ranked singles competitor, in the show's main event.
